  • Will we sign anyone else?

Ok, now that the summer is finally cooling down (not in iowa) will we sign anyone? there is still a roster spot, maybe two, on our team. who will we give it or them to. first i think we need a guard and/or a center. for the point guard position we will either give it to scottie reynolds or zabian dowdell. Now if that isnt the last roster spot and we still have one open we will have to get a center. This season's free agency isnt loaded with bigs, but there are still some out there. Some of them are Earl Barron, i looked at some of this guys stats and highlights and if you give him time he will do good. Next we could go back to jarron collins which i do not see happening. then we have joel pryzbilla, he played for portland last season. he's seven one and can rebound. Next we have a possible trade (sacramento trade someone talked about) wqe could get some really good players out of this and cap space possibly. I think our best options for center would be Joel Pryzbilla (though he would want some cash), Earl Barron (i like him), and then a trade. What do you guys think?

Hey! Anthony Tolliver is still out there, so it's not completely dried up. ;)
But what do you guys think about Jarvis Varnado? MIA already has a full roster, and Pittman is the only signed rookie. It doesn't appear like they have room to sign either De'Sean Butler or Varnado. The only problem I see is that he's a bit smaller and more of a F/C than a true C. But he's a very gifted shot-blocker, and I thought he performed fairly well in the SL.
Thanks for bringing this up man; I didn't realized they maxed out their roster already, but you're right: they're at 15 signed players right now according to hoopshype.

Varnado and Butler are two players I feel very strongly about. Varnado was a tremendous college defensive player and he's about as offensively talented as Lou Amundson (he catches the ball a lot better and has a few post-up moves, but not many). For that matter, Amundson and Varnado are almost carbon copies of each other on the defensive side of the ball.

Butler was right behind Evan Turner for me as my favorite college basketball player last season. The guy seems to me to be the definition of well-roundedness and balance in a basketball player, but he's coming off a bad ACL tear in March and probably still needs some time to get up to speed. But nonetheless he's very talented and from all accounts exudes great character and leadership qualities.

Unfortunately, neither one of those players are positions we have much need for right now. We need either depth at Center or at the Guard positions, not at Forward, and I guess that's a little disappointing (I do like the guys we have at Small Forward and Power Forward though).

I'm just wishing we got Dirk or Yi Jianlian instead of Hedo Turkoglu. Get Rudy Fernandez!

    You must really like Yi.

  • Re: Will we sign anyone else?

Why get YI when we already have Channing Frye?
As for Fernandez, heck no. We already don't have enough minutes for our SGs and didn't we just trade away a poor defensive SG who can shoot the 3 and attack the basket? Why bring in another one? He wants to go back to Spain anyway because he wants to be the star on his team, which isn't going to happen anywhere in the NBA.

Dirk, heck yeah, but why Yi?! I happen to think with Hedo in the mix, we can be the surprise team in the west.

I think we will too. Since our starting line up is smaller, we will see a lot of zone. Before I would get worried when we would play zone, but if our zone was able to contain the Lakers at times, I'm almost confident that our "girly" zone will cause problems for other teams. Not to mention I think our bench just got a lot stronger and better as well. We definifely have what it takes for another run.

Warrick is a Jim Boeheim guy, and I'm sure we'll hear that thrown out there a ton next season when zone defense discussions come up.

just an interesting thought, Carmelo i believe played with warrick while at syracuse, also donte greene played there as well!therefore they would all be familiar with each other and their playing styles somewhat? maybe indicating that chemistry between them might not be that bad if they were to play on the same team?just a thought! i'd still love to figure a way to pry jason thompson away from the kings though!

Yeah Jason Thompson or Melo would be very nice to have on our roster

And it doesn't hurt either, the comfort level they have from understanding the zone defense stategy and from playing together as well! might be a reasonable selling point if we can do really well this season!aside from that, What about etan thomas? or even earl barron or patrick obryant, considering our rookies may spend some time in the d-league at certain points in the season as well? They both would seem to be very reasonable cheap pickups for the last center spot on the roster?
